Chapter 6: The Room My Wife Buried
The hidden door opened with a loud click.
The sound echoed through the basement.
Nobody spoke.
Not Vivian.
Not Marcus.
Not even my children.
I stepped inside first.
The room smelled old.
Dust.
Paper.
Something forgotten.
A single light hung from the ceiling.
I turned it on.
And froze.
The walls were covered with documents.
Photos.
Medical records.
Letters.
Everything carefully organized.
Like someone had spent years preparing for this moment.
My entire life was inside that room.
I picked up the first folder.
My name was written across it.
*Daniel Harrison.*
My hands shook.
I opened it.
Inside were copies of emails.
Bank transfers.
Private conversations.
I scanned the pages.
Then I saw the date.
Three months before my wedding.
I looked at Vivian.
“You were planning this before we got married.””
She started crying.
“No.””
“Yes.””
I held up the papers.
“You knew.””
“I was scared.””
“You keep saying that.””
My voice cracked.
“But scared people don’t build secret rooms.””
Marcus stepped closer.
“Daniel, there’s more.””
I turned.
“You knew about this room?””
“Yes.””
The anger came instantly.
“You both did.””
Marcus didn’t deny it.
“I helped create it.””
I almost laughed.
“You’re admitting that?””
“Because I’m trying to fix what I did.””
“Six years too late.””
I looked through more files.
Then I found a photograph.
It was Vivian.
Holding Ethan and Caleb as newborns.
But standing beside her was another woman.
I recognized her.
Laura.
The nurse.
Behind the photo was a handwritten note.
*The original plan failed. New arrangement required.*
My stomach tightened.
“What plan?””
Nobody answered.
I turned toward Vivian.
“What plan?””
She sat down.
“I thought I could give them a better life.””
“You mean my life.””
Her tears fell.
“I thought if I gave them stability…”
“By lying to me?””
She covered her face.
“I was wrong.””
That was the first honest thing she had said.
But honesty after betrayal didn’t repair anything.
It only showed the damage.
I kept searching.
Then I found another envelope.
Inside was a DNA test.
Different from the one Laura showed me.
This one was newer.
Six months old.
I opened it.
And my heart stopped.
The father listed was not Marcus.
I looked up.
“What is this?””
Marcus moved closer.
His expression changed.
“What?””
I held the paper out.
“This says you’re not the biological father either.””
The room went completely silent.
Vivian looked shocked.
“No…”
Marcus grabbed the paper.
He read it.
His face lost all color.
“That’s impossible.””
I looked at both of them.
“What did you do?””
Nobody answered.
Then the basement door suddenly slammed shut.
Everyone turned.
Locked.
Someone had closed it from outside.
I rushed toward it.
“Who’s there?””
No response.
I hit the door.
“Open it!””
A voice came through.
A woman’s voice.
Calm.
Familiar.
“Daniel.””
I froze.
Because I knew that voice.
It wasn’t Vivian.
It wasn’t Laura.
It wasn’t Maya.
It was someone I had trusted.
Someone who had been part of our family for years.
“Maya?”” I whispered.
The voice answered:
“No.””
A pause.
Then:
“I’m the woman who delivered your sons.””
My blood went cold.
“You’re not supposed to be alive.””
Silence.
Then she said:
“That’s exactly what Vivian wanted everyone to believe.””
I looked at Vivian.
She was shaking.
And for the first time since this nightmare began…
She looked afraid of someone else.
The woman outside continued:
“Daniel, you need to know the truth before Vivian destroys the last piece of evidence.””
I stepped closer to the door.
“What evidence?””
Her answer came quietly.
“The real father of your sons.””
I looked at the DNA report in my hand.
Then at Vivian.
Then at Marcus.
And I realized something terrifying.
Everyone had been lying about who my children belonged to.
May you like
But nobody had been asking the most important question.
Who had been hiding the truth from all of them?
