Chapter 12: The Man Who Framed Me

Uncle Robert walked into the ballroom like he owned it.

Like he had not just been exposed.

Like he had not spent seventeen years hiding behind our family’s trust.

He wore the same calm expression I remembered from childhood.

The same gentle smile.

The same reassuring eyes.

And suddenly, that was the most terrifying thing about him.

Because monsters rarely look like monsters.

“Emily,” he said softly.

My hands curled into fists.

“Don’t say my name like you care.””

His smile faded slightly.

“After everything I’ve done for this family—”

I laughed.

“Everything you’ve done?””

I pointed toward the screen.

“My mother begged you for help.””

His expression changed.

Only for a second.

But I saw it.

“You were there.””

Robert sighed.

“Your mother was emotional.””

Daniel stepped forward.

“She was exposing you.””

Robert looked at him.

“You should be careful, Daniel.””

The threat was hidden beneath politeness.

I noticed.

Everyone noticed.

The police officers moved closer.

One of them held a folder.

“Emily Carter?””

I looked at him.

“Yes.””

“You’re being investigated regarding financial fraud and unauthorized company transfers.””

The room erupted.

Brandon stepped forward.

“This is wrong.””

Everyone looked at him.

For once, he was defending me.

The irony almost hurt.

“She didn’t do this.””

The officer looked at the documents.

“We have evidence.””

Robert spoke calmly.

“Unfortunately, family situations can become complicated.””

I stared at him.

“You did this.””

He looked surprised.

“Emily.””

“No.””

My voice became steady.

“You framed me.””

Robert sighed.

“You always were your mother’s daughter.””

That sentence froze me.

Because it wasn’t an insult.

It was fear.

He was afraid of my mother.

And now he was afraid of me.

Michael rushed forward.

“Wait.””

He held up his laptop.

“The documents are fake.””

The officer looked at him.

“What?””

Michael pointed.

“The signatures were copied.””

Robert immediately responded.

“That’s just an accusation.””

Michael shook his head.

“No.””

He turned the screen.

“The metadata proves they were edited.””

The officer looked at the information.

Robert’s expression changed.

Just slightly.

But enough.

I saw it.

“You thought you could blame me.””

Robert looked at me.

“You have no idea what you’re dealing with.””

“Then explain.””

Silence.

“Explain why my mother recorded you.””

Robert’s jaw tightened.

“Your mother was unstable.””

Daniel stepped forward.

“Careful.””

Robert looked at him.

“Or what?””

Daniel stared.

“Or everyone will finally hear the truth.””

Robert smiled.

“You still think truth matters.””

Those words revealed everything.

Because he didn’t deny it.

He believed he had already won.

Then Vanessa spoke.

“Robert.””

Everyone turned.

She looked at him.

Not with fear.

With anger.

“You used my father.””

Robert looked at her.

“Vanessa.””

“No.””

She stepped forward.

“You told him Richard destroyed him.””

Her voice shook.

“You convinced him revenge was the only option.””

Robert said nothing.

“You made him sacrifice his life for your plan.””

A long pause.

Then Robert smiled.

“And?””

Vanessa froze.

That single word destroyed her.

“And?””

Robert continued.

“Your father was weak.””

Her face changed.

“You promised him justice.””

“I promised him exactly what he wanted to hear.””

The room went silent.

Vanessa looked devastated.

For years, she had chased revenge.

And now she discovered she had been someone else’s weapon.

Robert turned toward me.

“You want answers?””

I stared at him.

“Yes.””

He smiled.

“Then come with me.””

Nobody moved.

My father immediately said:

“No.””

Robert looked at him.

“Still protecting her?””

My father stepped forward.

“You will not go near my daughter.””

Robert laughed.

“Your daughter?””

He looked at me.

“Is that what you still call her?””

My blood ran cold.

“What are you saying?””

Robert reached into his coat.

He pulled out a document.

A birth record.

He placed it on the table.

“Your mother wanted you to know the truth.””

I looked at the paper.

My hands trembled.

Robert smiled.

“Richard Williams isn’t your father.””

I looked at my father.

Then at the document.

Then at Robert.

The entire room waited.

Because after everything…

After all the lies…

There was still one question left.

Who was I really?

I picked up the document.

And saw the name written there.

The name of my biological father.

The man everyone thought was dead.

But the signature below it was fresh.

Because he had signed it yesterday.

May you like

Meaning he was alive.

And he was coming for me.
