Chapter 11: The Final Mission File

The alarm echoed through the archive.

Red lights flashed across the walls.

Nobody spoke.

Because everyone understood one thing.

Victor Lang was afraid.

And a man like Victor did not fear ordinary people.

Thomas moved toward the security panel.

“It’s controlled remotely.””

Hale looked at him.

“Can you open it?””

“No.””

Victor gave a quiet laugh.

“That system was designed to keep secrets inside.””

Ava looked at him.

“Like my father?””

Victor didn’t answer.

Ranger suddenly moved toward the old mission boxes.

He ignored the alarm.

Ignored the locked doors.

He followed something only he could sense.

I followed him.

The dog stopped at a damaged equipment case.

Inside was an old military jacket.

Daniel’s.

My hands shook as I lifted it.

Ava stared.

“That was his.””

Inside the jacket was a hidden pocket.

And inside that pocket was a final file.

Not digital.

Not recorded.

Written by hand.

Daniel’s final mission notes.

I opened the first page.

The handwriting was rushed.

Different from the calm notes I remembered.

I am running out of time.

The next sentence made my heart stop.

The betrayal is not about information.

It is about the mission itself.

Thomas leaned closer.

“What does that mean?””

I kept reading.

The operation was never supposed to recover the target.

It was designed to remove witnesses.

Ava looked at me.

“Witnesses?””

I turned the page.

Names.

Soldiers.

Analysts.

People connected to the investigation.

Several names had one word beside them.

Removed.

Hale looked sick.

“Daniel found out.””

Victor nodded slowly.

“Yes.””

“Found out what?””

Victor looked at the file.

“That the mission was created to erase everyone who knew about the operation.””

Thomas looked at him.

“And Daniel?””

Victor was silent.

Then he said:

“Daniel was supposed to disappear too.””

The room became still.

I looked at Ranger.

The dog was lying beside Daniel’s jacket.

Waiting.

Like he had been waiting seven years for this moment.

A loud удар hit the archive door.

Everyone turned.

Someone was trying to break in.

Victor looked at me.

“You need to understand something.””

“What?””

“Daniel didn’t send Ranger back because he wanted revenge.””

I waited.

“He sent him back because he wanted someone to finish what he started.””

Another удар.

The door began to bend.

Ava grabbed the file.

“We need to leave.””

I nodded.

But before we moved, Ranger suddenly barked.

Not in fear.

A warning.

He looked at Victor.

Then at the wall.

I followed his gaze.

There was another hidden panel.

I opened it.

Inside was a small recording device.

Ava whispered:

“Another message?””

I pressed play.

Daniel’s voice filled the room.

“Elias, if you found this, then you know the truth is bigger than the mission.””

Ava closed her eyes.

Daniel continued.

“But there is one thing I never told anyone.””

The recording paused.

Then his voice became quieter.

“Ranger did not witness my final moments.””

I froze.

Everyone looked at the device.

Daniel continued.

“He witnessed the moment before.””

A chill moved through me.

The moment before.

Before what?

Before Daniel died?

The door behind us cracked open.

Voices shouted outside.

Victor whispered:

“They’re here.””

Daniel’s final words played.

“The person who betrayed us was not the one who pulled the trigger.””

The recording ended.

May you like

And beneath it appeared one final line.

A name.
