Chapter 6: The Family Member Who Wanted Everything
For a few seconds, I couldn’t speak.
My company.
The thing I built.
The thing I sacrificed weekends, holidays, and sleep for.
Someone had tried to take it.
And the person behind it was connected to my family.
My lawyer continued.
“Daniel, we stopped the transfer because your security system flagged it.””
“Who submitted the request?””
“We’re still confirming.””
“But you know who accessed the system.””
“Yes.””
I waited.
Then he said:
“Your sister.””
I closed my eyes.
Of course.
Vanessa.
The vacation wasn’t the real goal.
It was never about Italy.
It was about control.
The luxury trip.
The upgrades.
The access.
She had spent so long believing she deserved what I had that she forgot one important thing.
I built it.
I earned it.
I protected it.
I ended the call and sat quietly.
When I got home, Clara was cooking dinner.
She turned when she heard the door.
“You’re home early.””
I forced a smile.
“Yeah.””
She looked at me carefully.
“Something happened.””
I nodded.
“Vanessa tried to access my company.””
The wooden spoon in her hand lowered.
“What?””
“She attempted to transfer ownership.””
Clara stared at me.
“Daniel…”
“I stopped it.””
She walked closer.
“Why would she do that?””
I didn’t answer immediately.
Because the truth was painful.
“She thinks everything I have belongs to the family.””
Clara looked down.
“That’s not family.””
No.
It wasn’t.
That night, I made a decision.
I wasn’t going to scream.
I wasn’t going to threaten.
I wasn’t going to become like them.
I was going to let the truth come out.
The next morning, I sent one message to my family.
*We need to talk. All of us. Tomorrow.*
My mother responded first.
*About the vacation?*
I stared at the screen.
Even now.
Even after everything.
That was what mattered.
I typed back:
*No. About what you tried to take from me.*
The response came immediately.
*Daniel, don’t be ridiculous.*
I didn’t reply.
The next day, everyone arrived at my house.
My father.
My mother.
Vanessa.
Even Mark.
They sat across from me in the living room.
Vanessa looked annoyed.
“I don’t know why we’re here.””
I placed a folder on the table.
“Because you tried to steal my company.””
The room went silent.
My mother gasped.
“That’s a horrible thing to say.””
I opened the folder.
Inside were the access records.
The timestamps.
The requests.
The evidence.
My father picked up the papers.
His face changed.
“Vanessa?””
She looked away.
“It wasn’t like that.””
I laughed quietly.
“Then explain what it was like.””
She didn’t answer.
Mark finally spoke.
“Vanessa told me she was just protecting the family.””
I looked at him.
“Protecting?””
He looked uncomfortable.
“She said you were going to abandon everyone.””
I shook my head.
“I paid for your dream vacation.””
Nobody spoke.
“I helped this family whenever I could.””
My voice cracked slightly.
“And the moment I said no, you decided to take more.””
Vanessa stood.
“You’re acting like we’re criminals.””
I looked at her.
“You broke into my accounts.””
She opened her mouth.
Nothing came out.
Then my father said something I never expected.
“Daniel, maybe we should have a private conversation.””
I looked at him.
“Why?””
He hesitated.
That hesitation told me everything.
“Because there’s something you don’t know.””
The room went quiet.
I stared at my father.
“What?””
He looked at Vanessa.
Then back at me.
“The vacation wasn’t the only thing your sister was planning.””
My heart sank.
“What else?””
My father slowly pushed another envelope across the table.
“I found this in her room.””
I opened it.
The first page was a legal document.
And at the top was a name.
Not mine.
Not Vanessa’s.
Someone else’s.
May you like
Someone who had been part of our family for years.
Someone who had a reason to destroy everything I built.
