Chapter 6: The Enemy Inside
The Sinclair estate had always felt like a fortress.
But that morning, for the first time, I understood why.
People weren’t afraid of the walls.
They were afraid of what happened inside them.
Alexander stood in the study, surrounded by documents and screens.
I watched him work.
Focused.
Calm.
Dangerously calm.
“Who is Daniel Voss?”” I asked.
Alexander stopped typing.
“You remember him?””
“Barely.””
“He worked with our father.””
I frowned.
“He was always at company events.””
“Yes.””
“And now he’s helping Adrian?””
Alexander looked at me.
“That’s what we need to find out.””
I sat down.
“This is my fault.””
His head lifted immediately.
“No.””
“I brought Adrian into our lives.””
“You married someone who lied to you.””
“But I trusted him.””
Alexander walked over.
“Emily, trust is not a crime.””
I looked away.
“I should have seen it.””
“You saw what you wanted to believe.””
Those words hurt.
But they were true.
A phone rang.
Alexander answered.
“Yes?””
He listened.
His face slowly changed.
“What do you mean missing?””
I stood.
“What happened?””
He ended the call.
“The original divorce documents are gone.””
“What?””
“The copies we had were only scans.””
My heart sank.
“Adrian has the originals?””
Alexander shook his head.
“No.””
“Then who?””
He looked toward the window.
“The person who helped him create them.””
A cold feeling moved through me.
“Daniel Voss.””
Alexander nodded.
Before we could say anything else, another message arrived.
This time on Alexander’s phone.
He read it silently.
Then handed it to me.
It was a photograph.
Adrian standing outside a building.
Beside him was Daniel Voss.
But that wasn’t the part that made my hands shake.
It was the person standing behind them.
My father.
Alive in the photograph.
My father, who had died six years ago.
I looked at Alexander.
“Alex…”
He stared at the image.
His voice was barely a whisper.
“That’s impossible.””
Another message appeared.
One sentence.
One name.
One warning.
“Ask your brother why your father really died.””
I looked at Alexander.
And for the first time since he entered the mansion, I saw something I had never seen before.
Fear.

Because whatever Adrian had started…
Was connected to something much bigger than a broken marriage.
