Chapter 6: The Hidden Account

Olivia sat down without asking.

That was the thing about her.

She always acted like every room belonged to her.

Even when she was walking into a conversation where everyone knew she had been exposed.

Daniel stared at her.

“How did you know I was here?””

Olivia smiled.

“Your location is connected to the company account.””

My eyes narrowed.

“You tracked him?””

She looked at me.

“Don’t pretend you wouldn’t check on someone who was destroying your future.””

Daniel pushed back from the table.

“You’re unbelievable.””

Olivia tilted her head.

“Am I?””

The confidence was returning.

Slowly.

“I built everything you have.””

Daniel laughed.

“You stole from me.””

“I invested.””

“You moved money without permission.””

“I protected us.””

“No.””

His voice became louder.

“You protected yourself.””

People at nearby tables looked over.

Olivia didn’t care.

“You were nothing before me, Daniel.””

The words shocked him.

Even me.

She continued.

“You had a company with no direction. A wife who didn’t understand ambition. A family trust you didn’t even know existed.””

My hands tightened.

“You knew about the trust.””

Olivia looked at me.

And smiled.

“Yes.””

Daniel stared at her.

“You lied to me.””

“I told you what you needed to know.””

“No.””

He shook his head.

“You manipulated me.””

Olivia leaned back.

“You were easy to manipulate.””

The honesty was almost worse than the lie.

Daniel went quiet.

I watched him absorb every word.

“You made me believe Sarah was holding me back.””

“She was.””

“No.””

His voice cracked.

“She was the only person who believed in me.””

Olivia’s expression changed.

Only slightly.

But I saw irritation.

She hated that.

She hated him remembering.

I pulled out my phone.

“Martin has evidence.””

Her eyes moved to the screen.

“What evidence?””

“The forged signature.””

For the first time, Olivia lost control.

Only for a second.

But it happened.

Then she recovered.

“You can’t prove anything.””

“I can.””

“Really?””

She smiled.

“Because I have something too.””

Daniel looked at her.

“What?””

Olivia reached into her purse.

She pulled out a small envelope.

My heart sank.

She placed it on the table.

Daniel opened it.

Inside were copies of documents.

His face changed as he read them.

“What is this?””

Olivia looked at me.

“Your wife has been hiding things too.””

I frowned.

“What?””

She pointed at the papers.

“Sarah never told you the full value of her family assets.””

Daniel looked at me.

“That’s true?””

I stared at him.

“Daniel.””

“Did you know?””

“Yes.””

His expression hardened.

“And you hid it from me?””

I felt something break.

After everything.

After he threw out my daughter.

After he let another woman manipulate him.

He was looking at me like I was the one who betrayed him.

“I didn’t hide it to control you.””

“Then why?””

“Because I wanted you to love me.””

The words came out quieter than I expected.

The table went silent.

Olivia watched us.

Enjoying it.

Because that was what she wanted.

She wanted us divided.

But then Daniel looked back at the papers.

Something caught his attention.

He flipped the page.

Then another.

His face changed.

“What is this?””

Olivia’s smile faded.

“What?””

Daniel held up the document.

“This account.””

I leaned closer.

The name was familiar.

Too familiar.

An account connected to the trust.

But the beneficiary wasn’t Olivia.

It wasn’t Daniel.

It was a third party.

A company created six months earlier.

Daniel looked at Olivia.

“Why is your name attached to this?””

She stood.

“I don’t know.””

“You said you didn’t know?””

“Yes.””

But her voice had changed.

She was no longer calm.

Daniel looked at me.

Then at the document.

“Sarah.””

I stepped closer.

“What?””

He pointed at the signature.

“This isn’t yours.””

I looked.

He was right.

It wasn’t my signature.

It wasn’t Daniel’s either.

A different name appeared beneath it.

A name that made Olivia suddenly grab the papers.

“No.””

The word escaped her.

Not anger.

Fear.

Daniel noticed.

“Who is that?””

Olivia backed away.

Nobody spoke.

Then my phone received a message.

From Martin.

I opened it.

A single sentence appeared:

*We identified the person who helped Olivia access the trust.*

Below it was a name.

I read it.

Then looked up.

May you like

Because the person who helped Olivia wasn’t a stranger.

It was someone Daniel trusted completely.
