Chapter 11: The Guest Who Knew Everything

The guest list sat on my father’s desk.

Two hundred and fifty-six names.

Two hundred and fifty-six people who watched my wedding collapse.

I stared at the paper.

“Who?””

My father looked at me.

“We don’t know yet.””

“But Rachel knew.””

“She was trying to tell us.””

“Before she disappeared.””

Nobody corrected me.

Because everyone knew what that meant.

Rachel wasn’t just afraid.

She was in danger.

My mother sat beside me.

“We need to be careful.””

I nodded.

For the first time, I understood why my father had always been cautious.

Secrets could hurt people.

But dangerous secrets could destroy them.

My father picked up the phone.

“I’m calling my security team.””

Before he could dial, the doorbell rang.

Again.

Everyone froze.

But this time, my father didn’t move toward the door.

He checked the camera.

His face changed.

“Who is it?””

I looked at the screen.

A woman stood outside.

I recognized her immediately.

Rachel.

My father opened the door.

She rushed inside.

She looked completely different from the woman in the video.

Her hair was messy.

Her eyes were exhausted.

“I didn’t know where else to go.””

My mother brought her water.

Rachel held the glass with shaking hands.

“They know I copied the files.””

“Who?””

She looked at me.

“Everyone involved.””

My father closed the door.

“Start from the beginning.””

Rachel nodded.

“Six months ago, I noticed unusual transfers.””

“From the company?””

“Yes.””

“By who?””

Rachel hesitated.

Then:

“Richard Sterling.””

My father’s expression hardened.

“But he wasn’t officially involved.””

“Exactly.””

Rachel opened her bag.

She pulled out a flash drive.

“He created fake consulting companies.””

She handed it to my father.

“Money moved through those companies.””

“And Beatrice?””

Rachel looked down.

“She knew.””

I felt anger rise.

“But she wasn’t the mastermind.””

“No.””

Rachel looked at me.

“She was trying to secure her family’s future.””

I almost laughed.

“By destroying mine?””

Rachel looked ashamed.

“Yes.””

My father connected the drive.

Files appeared.

Thousands of documents.

Emails.

Contracts.

Then Rachel stopped him.

“There’s one thing you need to see.””

She opened a video.

The footage was from my wedding.

But not the public cameras.

A private recording.

Beatrice and Richard.

Standing together before the ceremony.

I watched silently.

Richard said:

“Once she signs the marriage documents, we’re close.””

Beatrice looked nervous.

“She doesn’t know anything.””

“She doesn’t need to.””

“What about Julian?””

Richard smiled.

“He’s already desperate.””

The video continued.

Beatrice asked:

“And if Clara discovers everything?””

Richard answered:

“Then we make sure nobody believes her.””

The screen went black.

I felt cold.

My father looked furious.

But Rachel wasn’t finished.

“There’s more.””

She opened another file.

“This is why I came.””

A document appeared.

My name.

Julian’s name.

Richard’s name.

A legal agreement.

But something was different.

The signature section.

There was a blank space.

“What is this?””

Rachel looked at me.

“The final step.””

My stomach tightened.

“What final step?””

“Richard needed Julian to sign control of the company.””

“He did.””

“Yes.””

“Then what?””

Rachel swallowed.

“He needed you to sign too.””

My blood went cold.

“For what?””

She looked at the document.

“Your inheritance.””

Silence.

My father slowly stood.

“He planned to transfer Sterling Capital.””

Rachel nodded.

“He believed once Julian controlled Whitmore Technologies and Clara signed away her inheritance, he would control everything.””

My hands shook.

“And Julian?””

Rachel looked away.

“He was supposed to disappear.””

I stared.

“What?””

Rachel’s eyes filled with fear.

“Richard never planned to let Julian keep the company.””

The room went silent.

Because Julian had been fighting to save something that was never meant to be his.

My phone suddenly rang.

Julian.

I answered.

“Where are you?””

His voice was urgent.

“Clara, I need you to listen.””

“What happened?””

“I found Richard.””

My heart raced.

“Where?””

“He’s at the company.””

“Why?””

A pause.

Then Julian said:

“He’s destroying the remaining records.””

My father grabbed his coat.

“Stay away from him.””

Julian ignored him.

“Clara, there’s something else.””

“What?””

His voice lowered.

“I found the original agreement.””

“What agreement?””

“The one Richard made me sign.””

I held my breath.

“It wasn’t a transfer agreement.””

I frowned.

“Then what was it?””

Julian answered:

“It was a confession.””

The call went silent.

Then I heard a crash.

“Julian?””

No answer.

“Julian!””

The line stayed open.

May you like

And in the background, I heard Richard’s voice.

“You should have listened to me.””
