Chapter 14: The Choice That Changed Everything

The location was an abandoned warehouse outside the city.

Exactly the kind of place people imagined in nightmares.

But I wasn’t afraid.

Not anymore.

For months, everyone believed my accident destroyed me.

They thought losing my ability to walk made me weak.

They were wrong.

The accident didn’t destroy me.

It revealed everyone around me.

Marcus insisted on coming.

I refused.

“This is what he wants.””

Marcus frowned.

“He wants you alone.””

“Exactly.””

“That’s a trap.””

I looked at him.

“So was my entire life.””

He had no answer.

Before leaving, I found Isabella waiting outside the estate.

I stopped.

“What are you doing here?””

She looked nervous.

“I heard what happened.””

I shook my head.

“You shouldn’t be involved.””

She smiled sadly.

“You said something to me at the gala.””

I waited.

“People reveal who they are when they think you have nothing left.””

She looked at me.

“You were right.””

I smiled slightly.

“But you didn’t.””

She looked down.

“I only gave you water.””

“No.””

I shook my head.

“You treated me like I mattered.””

For the first time in days, I felt something other than anger.

Human kindness.

A reminder that not everyone was pretending.

I arrived at the warehouse alone.

Victor was waiting.

Older than I remembered.

But exactly the same confidence.

“Ethan.””

I walked forward.

“You ruined my family.””

He smiled.

“No.””

He shook his head.

“Your family ruined itself.””

I stared at him.

“You manipulated everyone.””

“I exposed everyone.””

I laughed.

“You call that exposing?””

“Yes.””

He stepped closer.

“Your brother wanted power.””

“Because you convinced him.””

“Your ex wanted security.””

“Because you used her.””

“Chad wanted status.””

“Because you offered him a shortcut.””

Every word was true.

But I still hated hearing it.

Victor smiled.

“Your father understood something.””

“What?””

“People don’t become corrupt because someone forces them.””

He looked at me.

“They become corrupt because the opportunity appears.””

I shook my head.

“You planned my accident.””

He didn’t answer.

That was the answer.

My hands tightened.

“You almost killed me.””

He looked calm.

“I underestimated you.””

The confession was simple.

Cold.

I stepped closer.

“And now?””

He smiled.

“Now I want to see what you do.””

He pointed toward a table.

A contract sat there.

“What is that?””

“A choice.””

I looked down.

The document contained control of my father’s entire empire.

But there was another condition.

I read it carefully.

My expression changed.

“If I sign this, Adrian loses everything.””

Victor nodded.

“And if you don’t?””

“You take the company?””

“No.””

He smiled.

“Everyone loses.””

I looked at the contract.

This was the final test.

Not whether I could defeat Victor.

Whether I would become like him.

A person who destroyed others to win.

My father’s words returned to my mind.

The person who could protect the company without destroying the family would receive control.

I picked up the pen.

Victor smiled.

“You’re choosing power.””

I looked at him.

“No.””

I tore the contract in half.

His smile disappeared.

“I choose not to become you.””

For the first time, Victor looked surprised.

Then my phone rang.

I answered.

Victoria’s voice came through.

“Ethan, you need to hear this.””

I looked at Victor.

“What happened?””

Her voice shook.

“We found the original accident report.””

My heart stopped.

“What about it?””

A pause.

Then:

“It proves something nobody knew.””

I waited.

“The accident wasn’t caused by Victor.””

I looked at Victor.

He looked confused.

Victoria continued:

“The person who tampered with your car…”

Silence.

May you like

Then the words came.

“It was someone who wanted to protect you.””
