The Night They Hit My Son / Chapter 13 / 15

Chapter 13: The Last Meeting

I went to the warehouse alone.

At least, that was what Alan Pierce believed.

I left Marcus behind.

I turned off my security detail.

I drove there in my old black sedan without a tracker.

But I wasn’t foolish.

Not anymore.

After everything that had happened, trust had become something I measured carefully.

Marcus was watching from a distance.

Not close enough to be seen.

Close enough to save me.

The warehouse sat on the edge of the city, abandoned for years.

The kind of place people used when they wanted secrets to disappear.

I stepped inside.

The air smelled like rust and dust.

“Alan?””

My voice echoed.

For a moment, nothing happened.

Then footsteps.

Alan walked out from the shadows.

His suit was wrinkled.

His face looked exhausted.

Not like a criminal.

Like a man who had been running for years.

“You came.””

I stared at him.

“You threatened my son.””

His expression changed.

“No.””

“That’s what everyone says.””

“Daniel, listen to me.””

I laughed quietly.

“Why?””

He stopped.

“Because I’m the only person left who can tell you the truth.””

I took another step forward.

“You changed the documents.””

Alan looked down.

“Yes.””

The answer shocked me.

Not because he admitted it.

Because he admitted it so quickly.

“Why?””

“Because I was trying to stop the deal.””

“The Whitmore acquisition?””

“Yes.””

“That makes no sense.””

Alan looked at me.

“It does when you know what was inside their company.””

I waited.

“Tell me.””

He pulled out a folder.

Not unlike my father’s.

Not unlike every other secret that had appeared in my life.

“This started twenty years ago.””

He opened it.

“Your father discovered the Black Circle was using multiple companies to hide money and control markets.””

“I know.””

“No.””

He shook his head.

“You know the story. You don’t know the reason.””

I frowned.

“What reason?””

Alan looked directly at me.

“The Black Circle wasn’t created by outsiders.””

The silence was immediate.

“What?””

“It started inside Cross Holdings.””

My stomach tightened.

“Who?””

Alan hesitated.

Then:

“Your grandfather.””

I stared.

“My grandfather?””

He nodded.

“Your family built the foundation of the organization.””

“That’s impossible.””

“I wish it was.””

He handed me the folder.

Inside were old records.

My grandfather’s signature.

Old company transfers.

Names I recognized.

People connected to my family.

“This is why your father fought them.””

I looked at the documents.

“Why didn’t he tell me?””

“Because he knew you would try to destroy everything.””

I almost smiled.

“That sounds like him.””

Alan looked away.

“He also knew something else.””

“What?””

“That the Black Circle needed an heir.””

I froze.

“What does that mean?””

Alan’s voice became quieter.

“They believed power should stay within families.””

I looked at him.

“You’re saying they wanted Noah?””

“Yes.””

My heart dropped.

“Why?””

“Because Noah is the only person who can legally access what your father hid.””

I thought about the key.

The compartment.

The documents.

The strange way everything pointed toward my son.

“What did my father hide?””

Alan looked at me.

“The original records.””

“What records?””

“The names of everyone involved.””

My phone buzzed.

A message from Marcus.

*Daniel. Leave now.*

I looked up.

“Why?””

A second message came.

*You weren’t followed. Someone was already inside.*

I turned.

The warehouse lights flickered.

Alan’s face changed.

“He found us.””

“Who?””

Before he could answer, a voice came from behind me.

“You really are your father’s son.””

I turned.

And saw the person standing in the doorway.

The person who had been controlling everything.

The person who knew every secret.

The person whose name appeared in my father’s letter.

My mother.

She looked older.

Tired.

But alive.

She stared at me.

And whispered:

“I’m sorry, Daniel.””

My hands tightened.

“You.””

She closed her eyes.

“Yes.””

The person I had spent my life grieving.

The person who had been hiding.

The person my father warned me about.

My mother stepped forward.

“I didn’t betray your father.””

I stared at her.

“Then why did he write your name?””

Her eyes filled with tears.

“Because he knew I was the only person who could finish what he started.””

I didn’t know what to believe anymore.

Then she said something that changed everything.

“Daniel, your father didn’t hide the evidence from the Black Circle.””

May you like

She looked at me.

“He hid it from you.””
