Chapter 2: The Evidence

The next morning, Marcus walked into school expecting everything to feel different.

It didn’t.

The same students filled the hallway.

The same lockers slammed shut.

The same announcements played through the speakers.

But Marcus felt like he was carrying a secret that was too heavy for one person.

Ethan caught up with him near the science wing.

“Hey.””

Marcus turned.

“You okay?””

Ethan nodded.

“Yeah. I should be asking you that.””

Marcus looked away.

“My hand is fine.””

“That’s not what I mean.””

They stood quietly for a moment.

Ethan lowered his voice.

“She doesn’t know.””

Marcus looked at him.

“About the recording?””

“No.””

Ethan glanced around before continuing.

“But someone else does.””

Marcus felt his stomach tighten.

“Who?””

Ethan reached into his backpack.

Not to show a phone.

Not to reveal a message.

Instead, he pulled out a folded letter.

“My mom works with the district office. She saw the email.””

Marcus stared at the paper.

“What email?””

“The video was sent automatically last night.””

Marcus looked confused.

“I thought you uploaded it.””

“I did.””

Ethan took a breath.

“But I sent it to someone else too.””

“Who?””

Ethan looked toward the main office.

“The superintendent.””

For the first time in days, Marcus felt something other than anger.

Hope.

But before he could say anything, the warning bell rang.

Students rushed toward their classrooms.

And then they saw her.

Mrs. Gallagher.

Walking down the hallway.

She looked completely normal.

Perfect hair.

Perfect suit.

Perfect smile.

Like nothing had happened.

Like she hadn’t spent the previous day humiliating a student in front of an entire classroom.

She stopped when she saw Marcus.

For a second, her smile disappeared.

Then she walked closer.

“Marcus.””

He looked at her.

“Yes, Mrs. Gallagher?””

Her voice became unusually sweet.

“I hope there are no misunderstandings between us.””

Several students nearby slowed down.

Marcus said nothing.

She leaned slightly closer.

“You’re a smart young man. I would hate for one emotional mistake to affect your future.””

Ethan stepped forward.

“Are you threatening him again?””

Mrs. Gallagher looked at Ethan.

Her smile returned.

“Careful.””

Ethan’s jaw tightened.

She walked away.

But Marcus noticed something.

Her hands were shaking.

Small.

Almost invisible.

But shaking.

Later that afternoon, the principal announced that several students needed to meet in the conference room.

Marcus entered and saw Ethan sitting there.

Then he saw the superintendent.

And beside him was a woman holding a folder.

Mrs. Gallagher entered a few seconds later.

She stopped.

Her face changed.

Because she recognized the woman.

The woman looked directly at her.

“Hello, Clara.””

Nobody spoke.

Mrs. Gallagher swallowed.

“You’re here?””

The woman nodded.

“I am.””

Marcus looked between them.

“You know each other?””

The woman placed the folder on the table.

“Yes.””

Her voice was calm.

“Unfortunately, I know her very well.””

Mrs. Gallagher’s confidence vanished.

“Don’t do this.””

The woman opened the folder.

“You had years to stop.””

The superintendent looked confused.

“What exactly are we looking at?””

The woman turned the folder around.

Inside were printed reports.

Multiple reports.

Marcus stared.

“How many people reported her?””

The woman didn’t answer immediately.

She just looked at Mrs. Gallagher.

Then she said:

“Marcus was not the first student.””

The room went silent.

And suddenly, the teacher who thought she had absolute power realized something.

May you like

The ruler in her hand had never been the strongest weapon.

The truth was.
