Chapter 12: The Trap I Built For Them

I didn't confront Melissa immediately.

That surprised everyone.

Especially Jake.

He expected anger.

He expected revenge.

Instead, I became quiet.

Because I finally understood something.

Melissa had spent years studying my weaknesses.

She believed my emotions made me predictable.

So I stopped showing them.

For the next week, I played the person she thought I was.

The woman who forgave too easily.

The woman who wanted peace.

The woman who could be manipulated.

Jake called every day.

Sometimes I answered.

Sometimes I didn't.

He never complained.

He knew he had lost the right.

One evening, he came to my office.

"I know what you're doing.""

I looked up from my papers.

"What?""

"You're pretending everything is okay.""

I closed the folder.

"I'm not pretending.""

"Then what are you doing?""

I looked at him.

"Watching.""

Jake went silent.

"Watching what?""

"Everyone.""

He understood.

Especially himself.

He sat down.

"I deserve that.""

I didn't argue.

Because he did.

Then Daniel entered.

"We have a problem.""

I looked at him.

"Melissa?""

He nodded.

"She scheduled a meeting tomorrow.""

"With who?""

"The board.""

I smiled slightly.

"Good.""

Daniel looked confused.

"Good?""

"Yes.""

Jake frowned.

"Emma, she's going to try removing you.""

"I know.""

"Then why are you smiling?""

I stood and walked toward the window.

"Because she thinks she's walking into a meeting.""

I turned around.

"She's actually walking into a courtroom.""

The next day, the boardroom was full.

Melissa arrived wearing an expensive suit and a confident smile.

She looked at me like she had already won.

"Emma.""

I smiled.

"Melissa.""

She sat across from me.

"I wish things didn't have to become this difficult.""

I almost laughed.

"You pushed me into this.""

Her smile remained.

"I think you're emotional.""

There it was.

The same strategy.

Make me look unstable.

Make me look weak.

I placed a folder on the table.

"I think you should read this.""

She opened it.

Her smile disappeared.

Inside were financial records.

Communication records.

Security footage.

Everything.

Her face changed.

"What is this?""

"Evidence.""

She looked at Jake.

"What did you do?""

Jake didn't answer.

Because this time, he wasn't protecting her.

Melissa turned back to me.

"You don't understand what you're doing.""

I smiled.

"I understand perfectly.""

The board members began reading.

One by one, their expressions changed.

Mr. Harrison looked up.

"Is this accurate?""

Daniel nodded.

"Every document has been verified.""

Melissa stood.

"This is a misunderstanding.""

I looked at her.

"Was it also a misunderstanding when you told Jake to humiliate me?""

Silence.

She froze.

"What?""

I pressed a button.

The birthday video appeared on the screen.

Her own voice filled the room.

"She needs to look weak.""

Everyone heard it.

The woman who always smiled politely.

The woman who brought gifts to family dinners.

The woman who called me sister.

Everyone saw the truth.

Melissa's face turned red.

"You recorded me?""

"No.""

I looked at her.

"You recorded yourself.""

She stared at me.

Then slowly smiled.

A dangerous smile.

"You think this ends here?""

The room became quiet.

She leaned closer.

"You still don't know why your grandfather hid everything.""

I frowned.

"What does that mean?""

Melissa picked up her purse.

Before leaving, she looked at me.

"Ask Victoria why she was really chosen to protect you.""

Then she walked out.

I watched the door close.

Because once again...

someone had revealed a secret.

May you like

And this time, it wasn't about money.

It was about my family.
