Chapter 12: The Woman Who Knew The Truth

Emily’s face remained on the screen.

Nobody spoke.

Not even Daniel.

For the first time since entering the archive, he looked uncertain.

Noah noticed.

And that frightened him more than anything.

Because Daniel Voss was a man who always seemed prepared.

But now he wasn’t.

Emily continued.

“My name is Emily Parker.””

Her voice shook.

“I was Michael and Sarah’s closest friend.””

Noah stared.

Sarah.

His mother’s name.

A name he had only seen written on a birth certificate.

Never spoken.

Never remembered.

Emily looked down.

“I made a mistake.””

The room became quiet.

“I thought I was helping people.””

Thomas whispered:

“No.””

Emily continued.

“Daniel approached me because he knew I trusted him.””

Her eyes filled with tears.

“He told me Michael was planning to destroy the system.””

Noah frowned.

“But that wasn’t true.””

“No.””

Emily shook her head in the recording.

“I believed him.””

Daniel looked away.

Noah noticed.

“You lied to her.””

Daniel didn’t answer.

Emily continued.

“By the time I discovered the truth, it was too late.””

She looked directly at the camera.

“Michael and Sarah were already in danger.””

Noah’s hands trembled.

“What happened to them?””

The recording paused.

Emily closed her eyes.

Then:

“They escaped.””

Everyone froze.

Noah looked up.

“Escaped?””

Thomas stared at the screen.

“You knew?””

Emily continued.

“I helped them.””

Daniel suddenly stepped forward.

“Turn it off.””

Nobody moved.

Daniel’s calm expression was gone.

For the first time, anger appeared.

Noah looked at him.

“You’re afraid.””

Daniel glared.

That answer was enough.

Emily continued.

“Michael and Sarah knew Daniel would never stop searching.””

She took a breath.

“So they created another plan.””

Noah stepped closer.

“What plan?””

Emily looked at the camera.

“They wanted Noah to disappear.””

The words hurt.

Even though he understood.

Even though he knew there was a reason.

It still hurt.

“To everyone else, Noah would become a child with no connection to them.””

Emily wiped her eyes.

“But Richard refused.””

Noah looked confused.

“Why?””

“Because Richard loved you too much.””

The recording showed an old photo.

A baby wrapped in a blanket.

Noah.

Emily smiled sadly.

“He said a child should never grow up believing he was unwanted.””

Noah looked away.

His throat tightened.

Daniel suddenly spoke.

“You still don’t understand.””

Everyone turned.

Daniel looked at Noah.

“Your grandfather lied because he knew the truth would hurt you.””

Noah stared.

“What truth?””

Daniel smiled.

“The truth that your parents were alive after they disappeared.””

The room froze.

Noah couldn’t move.

“What?””

Thomas looked shocked.

“That’s impossible.””

Daniel stepped closer.

“Is it?””

Noah’s voice shook.

“My parents…”

Daniel looked at him.

“They didn’t abandon you.””

A pause.

“They were trying to come back.””

Noah felt tears forming.

“Where are they?””

Daniel didn’t answer.

Instead, he looked at Thomas.

“Tell him.””

Thomas went pale.

Noah turned.

“Thomas?””

The older man looked broken.

“I don’t know where they are.””

“Then why did he say that?””

Thomas didn’t answer.

Daniel smiled.

“Because Thomas knows the truth.””

Noah looked at him.

“What truth?””

Daniel’s expression became cold.

“Your parents are alive.””

Silence.

Nobody breathed.

Nobody moved.

Then Daniel said:

“And they’ve been hiding from you for nine years.””

Noah felt the world spin.

His entire life.

Every memory.

Every lonely night.

Every question.

All of it changed in one sentence.

“My parents…”

His voice cracked.

“Are alive?””

Daniel nodded.

“Yes.””

Then he looked at the door.

“And they’re closer than you think.””

Everyone turned.

A figure stood at the entrance of the archive.

A woman.

Older.

Tired.

Crying.

Noah stared at her.

Because she looked at him like she had been searching for him forever.

Then she whispered:

“Noah.””

The boy froze.

Because he had never heard that voice before.

May you like

But somehow…

he knew exactly who she was.
