Chapter 10: The Father Who Left A Legacy
The screen remained black.
Nobody spoke.
The title stayed visible in white letters.
*THE TRUTH ABOUT NOAH’S FATHER*
It was only five words.
But Noah felt like they carried the weight of his entire life.
His hands tightened around the bank card.
“My father…”
He whispered the word as if he was trying to understand what it meant.
For years, he had avoided asking too many questions.
Not because he didn’t care.
Because every question ended with the same answer.
“Someday.””
Someday, his grandfather would explain.
Someday, he would understand.
Someday never came.
Until now.
Thomas moved toward the computer.
“We need to open it.””
Mr. Carter stopped him.
“Wait.””
Everyone looked at him.
The manager pointed toward the screen.
“This file was hidden for a reason.””
Thomas frowned.
“Because Daniel was searching for it.””
“Yes.””
“And now we found it.””
Mr. Carter looked at Noah.
“Noah needs to know the truth.””
The boy looked up.
“Then open it.””
Nobody argued.
Thomas pressed a button.
The screen flickered.
A video appeared.
At first, it was only static.
Then a man appeared.
A man Noah had never seen alive.
But somehow, he recognized him instantly.
The same eyes.
The same calm expression.
The same slight smile from the photograph.
His father.
Noah stopped breathing.
The room disappeared.
The archive disappeared.
For a moment, there was only the face of the man he had spent his whole life imagining.
The recording began.
“My name is Michael Hale.””
Noah covered his mouth.
The voice was real.
Not a story.
Not a photograph.
Real.
“If you are watching this, then something happened that I hoped would never happen.””
Michael looked directly into the camera.
“Someone found Noah.””
Thomas lowered his head.
Mr. Carter looked away.
Noah stepped closer to the screen.
His father continued.
“First, I need my son to know something.””
A pause.
“I never left you.””
Noah froze.
The words hit him harder than expected.
His father looked down briefly.
“People will tell you many things. They will say your parents disappeared. They will say we abandoned you.””
His eyes became serious.
“But the truth is, we were trying to save you.””
Noah’s vision blurred.
He quickly wiped his face.
Michael continued.
“Daniel Voss discovered what I created.””
A diagram appeared behind him.
A complicated system of numbers and security codes.
“The system could identify illegal transactions before they happened. It could expose powerful people who believed they were untouchable.””
Mr. Carter whispered:
“That’s why he wanted it.””
Michael nodded in the recording.
“Daniel didn’t want to destroy my invention.””
The screen showed a list of names.
“He wanted to control it.””
Noah stared.
“Control the world’s money?””
Thomas nodded.
“Yes.””
The video continued.
“When I refused to give him access, he threatened my family.””
Michael looked away from the camera.
“That was when we realized we couldn’t fight him alone.””
Noah leaned closer.
“Who helped you?””
The recording answered.
“My father.””
Richard.
His grandfather.
Michael smiled sadly.
“Richard sacrificed everything to protect Noah.””
A tear rolled down Noah’s cheek.
His grandfather had never told him he was a hero.
He only told him to be kind.
The recording continued.
“We created a backup plan.””
A folder appeared on the screen.
“The account.””
Noah looked at his bank card.
Michael nodded.
“The trust account was never about money.””
The image changed.
A small symbol appeared.
“It was a secure key.””
Mr. Carter stepped closer.
“The account was waiting for Noah.””
Michael continued.
“Because the system needed a living member of our family to activate.””
Noah stared.
“Me?””
“Yes.””
The answer came from the recording.
“You are not valuable because of what you inherited.””
Michael’s voice softened.
“You are valuable because you survived.””
Noah looked down.
The words reminded him of his grandfather.
His worth was never inside the account.
The video continued.
“But there is one thing I need you to understand.””
Michael’s expression changed.
“Daniel Voss did not cause our disappearance alone.””
Everyone froze.
Thomas looked at the screen.
“What?””
Michael continued.
“Someone inside our circle betrayed us.””
Noah felt cold.
“Who?””
The video glitched.
Static covered the screen.
Michael’s voice became distorted.
“Noah…”
The image flickered.
“Trust…”
The recording stopped.
A message appeared.
*FILE CORRUPTED.*
Noah stared.
“That’s it?””
Thomas shook his head.
“No.””
He looked at the computer.
“Someone interrupted it.””
Mr. Carter looked toward the archive entrance.
“How?””
Nobody answered.
Then they heard it.
A slow clap.
From the hallway.
Everyone turned.
Daniel Voss stood there.
Alone.
Calm.
Smiling.
“You always were good at finding old secrets.””
Thomas stepped forward.
“You won’t get him.””
Daniel looked at Noah.
“I’m not here for him.””
Noah frowned.
“Then why?””
Daniel smiled.
“Because I need him to know the truth.””
A pause.
“Your grandfather lied to you too.””
Noah’s heart stopped.
Daniel looked directly at him.
“Your father didn’t disappear because of me.””
The room became silent.
May you like
Daniel whispered:
“He disappeared because of someone who loved you.””
