Chapter 11: The Hidden Daughter

The photograph fell from my hand.

Nobody spoke.

Nobody needed to.

Because the answer was right there.

A picture taken fifteen years ago.

My father standing beside Vivian.

Mr. Harrison beside him.

And between them…

a little girl.

A little girl holding my father’s hand.

I stared at the face.

Even after all these years, I recognized her.

Because I had seen that face in the mirror.

It was me.

But that wasn’t what shocked me.

It was the date written on the back.

*Three years before Hannah was born.*

My hands went numb.

“What is this?””

Nobody answered.

I turned around.

“Someone explain this.””

Mr. Harrison looked away.

Ethan looked heartbroken.

And Vivian…

Vivian looked like she had been waiting for this moment.

“Hannah…”

“No.””

I held up the photograph.

“What am I looking at?””

Ethan spoke softly.

“Your father wanted you to know the truth.””

“Then tell me.””

He swallowed.

“Before you were born, Daniel and Vivian had a child.””

I blinked.

“What?””

Ashley gasped.

“What?””

Vivian closed her eyes.

The room shifted.

Because suddenly, the family I thought I knew wasn’t real.

“Who is the child?””

Ethan looked at me.

“You.””

My breath stopped.

“No.””

I shook my head.

“That’s impossible.””

Vivian stepped forward.

“You were too young to remember.””

I looked at her.

“You’re lying.””

“I’m not.””

“You told me my mother died when I was a baby.””

Vivian’s face changed.

“She did.””

“Then how?””

Nobody answered.

My heart raced.

“No.””

I looked at Mr. Harrison.

“You knew.””

He nodded slowly.

“Yes.””

“You all knew?””

His silence was enough.

The betrayal hurt more than Vivian throwing me out.

Because this was my identity.

My life.

My memories.

Everything I believed was built on a lie.

“Why?””

My voice broke.

“Why would my father hide this from me?””

Ethan stepped closer.

“Because he was protecting you.””

Everyone kept saying that.

Protecting me.

But nobody understood.

“I don’t need protection from the truth.””

Ethan’s eyes filled with sadness.

“You do when the truth can get you hurt.””

I looked at the photograph again.

The little girl.

Me.

With people who knew more about my life than I did.

“What happened to my mother?””

Nobody answered.

Then Vivian whispered:

“She didn’t leave.””

The room went cold.

“What?””

Vivian looked down.

“She was taken away from you.””

My heart pounded.

“By who?””

Before she could answer, a loud crash came from outside.

Everyone turned.

The front window shattered.

Glass fell across the floor.

Ashley screamed.

Mr. Harrison grabbed my arm.

“Down!””

We dropped behind the couch.

For several seconds, there was only silence.

Then footsteps.

Someone was outside.

Someone had been watching.

Ethan moved toward the window.

“Don’t.””

Mr. Harrison stopped him.

“It could be a trap.””

My phone buzzed.

Everyone looked at me.

Another unknown message.

I opened it.

A video.

A short clip.

My finger hovered over the screen.

Then I pressed play.

The video showed my father.

Alive.

Sitting in his office.

Speaking directly to the camera.

My entire body froze.

“Hannah,” my father said.

His voice.

His real voice.

Not a recording from years ago.

This was recent.

“If you’re watching this, then things went wrong.””

Tears filled my eyes.

He looked tired.

But alive.

“I need you to listen carefully.””

The video continued.

“Do not trust Vivian.””

My heart tightened.

Then he added:

“Do not trust Ethan.””

I looked at my uncle.

His face turned pale.

And then my father said the one thing that destroyed everything I believed.

“The person who betrayed me is the person who helped me create this plan.””

The video stopped.

The screen went black.

Nobody moved.

Because there was only one person left.

May you like

One person who had helped my father create the plan.

Mr. Harrison.
