Chapter 12: The Signature That Wasn't His

The document spread across the internet within hours.

Everyone saw it.

Every news channel.

Every investor.

Every employee.

A single page.

A signature.

And a story.

The story Daniel wanted everyone to believe.

Adrian Vale had knowingly transferred control.

Elena Whitmore had hidden the truth.

The company had been built on deception.

The public loved simple stories.

And this one was simple.

Too simple.

"Where did he get it?"" Adrian asked.

Nobody answered.

Because we were all asking the same question.

I studied the document carefully.

Something felt wrong.

Not because I wanted it to be wrong.

Because I knew Adrian.

He was many things.

Careless.

Proud.

Stubborn.

But he wasn't someone who would secretly surrender everything.

Margaret enlarged the document.

"Look at the date.""

I leaned closer.

The date was from five years earlier.

Adrian frowned.

"I wasn't signing anything that day.""

"Are you sure?""

"Yes.""

He looked at me.

"I was in London.""

My eyes narrowed.

"Who was handling company documents?""

Adrian went quiet.

Then his face changed.

"Victoria.""

The room froze.

Margaret immediately began searching records.

Ten minutes later, she found it.

"Victoria requested access to old corporate files five years ago.""

Adrian closed his eyes.

"She changed the document.""

"We don't know yet," Margaret said.

"But we know she had access.""

The next step was obvious.

Find the original.

The problem?

The original wasn't in our digital records.

Daniel had removed it.

That meant someone inside the company helped him.

Again.

I walked through the headquarters that afternoon.

Employees watched me.

Some with fear.

Some with hope.

I realized something important.

This wasn't just about my family anymore.

Thousands of people depended on the truth.

Then someone approached me.

An older employee named Michael.

He had worked with my father since the beginning.

"Elena.""

I smiled.

"Michael.""

He looked nervous.

"There is something I should have told you.""

I waited.

Years of experience taught me that the most important truths usually arrived quietly.

"What is it?""

He looked around.

"Your father kept a private archive.""

"I know.""

"No.""

He shook his head.

"A different one.""

My expression changed.

"Where?""

Michael lowered his voice.

"He told me never to open it unless the company was in danger.""

A cold feeling moved through me.

"And why are you telling me now?""

He looked toward the building.

"Because it is.""

That night, Michael took us to a hidden room beneath the old headquarters.

A place untouched for years.

Inside were boxes.

Files.

Recordings.

Everything my father had preserved.

Adrian looked around.

"He planned for this.""

I shook my head.

"No.""

I opened the first box.

"He prepared for human nature.""

Inside the archive was one final envelope.

My father's handwriting.

This time, it had both our names.

*Elena and Adrian.*

I stared.

Why would my father write a letter to both of us?

Adrian looked at me.

"Open it.""

I did.

The first sentence made my hands shake.

"If you are reading this together, then something impossible has happened.""

I continued.

"The two people I trusted most have finally found their way back to the same side.""

I stopped.

Adrian looked at me.

Because my father knew.

He knew there was a chance we would end up here.

Then I read the final line.

"But before you can save the company, you must uncover the truth about the person who betrayed both of you.""

A second paper slipped from the envelope.

A name.

A name neither of us expected.

And when Adrian saw it, he whispered:

"No...""

Because the person my father named wasn't Daniel.

May you like

It wasn't Victoria.

It was someone who had been standing beside us from the beginning.
