Chapter 11: The Truth Behind the Accident
Richard had spent his entire life believing family was the one thing money could never replace.
He was wrong.
Money didn’t destroy families.
People did.
And sometimes the people closest to you were the ones holding the match.
Richard looked at Mark.
His son stood frozen.
“No.””
Mark shook his head.
“No, that’s not true.””
Alexander didn’t react.
“Isn’t it?””
Mark’s voice rose.
“You disappeared.””
“Yes.””
“Everyone thought you were dead.””
“Yes.””
“Because you ran.””
Alexander looked at him.
“Because you tried to make me disappear.””
The accusation hung in the room.
Richard looked between them.
“Tell me everything.””
Alexander nodded slowly.
“Twenty years ago, I discovered something about my father’s estate.””
Richard listened.
“The Bellacorte trust was never meant to reward the person with the most ambition.””
Alexander looked at Noah.
“It was meant to protect the next generation.””
Richard glanced at the papers.
“The heir.””
“Yes.””
Alexander continued.
“When Noah was born, I learned about the condition.””
Mark’s face tightened.
“He wasn’t supposed to know.””
Richard looked at him.
“You were hiding it?””
Mark said nothing.
Alexander continued.
“Mark believed if he controlled Noah, he controlled the future.””
Elena looked down.
“He started changing.””
Richard remembered.
The expensive dinners.
The smiling photographs.
The perfect family image.
All of it hiding something rotten.
Alexander looked at Richard.
“When Elena discovered the truth, she came to me.””
Richard frowned.
“Why not me?””
Alexander hesitated.
“Because Mark convinced her you would never believe her.””
Richard closed his eyes.
The pain was immediate.
Because it was true.
He had believed his son.
Not because Elena was wrong.
Because Mark was his son.
Alexander continued.
“I helped Elena collect evidence.””
Thomas nodded.
“I helped too.””
Richard looked at him.
“And the accident?””
Alexander’s expression changed.
“He found out.””
Everyone knew who he meant.
“Mark?””
Alexander nodded.
“He arranged for my car to fail.””
Richard felt sick.
“How did you survive?””
“Luck.””
Alexander smiled sadly.
“Or maybe someone above wanted me to finish what I started.””
Mark suddenly shouted:
“Enough!””
Everyone turned.
His face was red.
“You’re all acting like I’m some monster.””
Richard stared.
“What else should we call someone who destroys his own family?””
Mark shook his head.
“I was trying to survive.””
Alexander stepped forward.
“You had everything.””
“No!””
Mark’s voice cracked.
“You had everything!””
The room went quiet.
Mark looked at Richard.
“You were always the great Richard Bellacorte.””
Richard said nothing.
“The genius. The founder. The man everyone respected.””
Mark laughed bitterly.
“And I was just your son.””
Richard looked hurt.
“You had my love.””
Mark’s eyes filled.
“Not enough.””
The confession was almost worse than anger.
Richard saw it then.
The wounded child inside the cruel man.
But pain did not excuse cruelty.
Especially toward Noah.
Mark looked at Elena.
“She was going to take everything from me.””
Elena answered quietly.
“No. I was going to stop you from taking everything from your son.””
Mark looked away.
Richard walked toward him.
“Where is the rest of the evidence?””
Mark didn’t answer.
Richard repeated:
“Where?””
A long silence.
Then Mark whispered:
“In the old family house.””
Alexander frowned.
“What?””
Mark looked at him.
“The original documents.””
Richard understood.
The final proof.
The thing everyone had been searching for.
Mark had hidden it.
“Take us there.””
Mark laughed weakly.
“You think this ends with documents?””
Richard looked at him.
“Yes.””
Mark shook his head.
“You don’t understand.””
He looked at Noah.
“The documents will tell you who his father really is.””
Everyone froze.
Richard stared.
“What are you talking about?””
Mark looked at Elena.
Then at Alexander.
A terrible silence followed.

Then Mark whispered:
“Because Noah’s father is not who you think.””
