Chapter 6: The Truth Buried For Years

For several seconds, nobody spoke.

The rain outside was the only sound.

My father.

The man who taught me everything about business.

The man whose name built the foundation of my empire.

The man I spent my entire life trying to make proud.

Had paid Victoria to destroy my family.

I read the sentence again.

Then again.

My mind refused to accept it.

“No.””

My voice came out quietly.

Victoria looked at me.

“You wanted the truth.””

“No.””

I threw the paper onto the table.

“I wanted answers. Not another lie.””

She stepped closer.

“It’s not a lie.””

Ethan looked uncomfortable.

“You knew too?””

I turned toward him.

His silence told me everything.

My anger exploded.

“Everyone knew.””

My voice echoed through the mansion.

“Everyone except me.””

Lily covered Emma’s ears.

The movement broke my heart.

I immediately lowered my voice.

“Sorry.””

I knelt beside her.

“Daddy’s okay.””

She looked at me.

“You’re not going to leave, right?””

The question hurt more than anything Victoria had said.

I held her hand.

“No.””

This time, I meant it.

I stood again.

“Tell me everything.””

Victoria looked at the floor.

For the first time, she looked less like a villain and more like someone who had finally been trapped by her own choices.

“Your father didn’t want Elena.””

“Why?””

“Because she knew too much.””

My eyes narrowed.

“About what?””

Victoria hesitated.

Ethan answered.

“Your father was hiding money.””

I looked at him.

“What?””

“Years ago, before you took control of the company, there were financial problems. He moved assets around. Created accounts.””

I shook my head.

“That’s impossible.””

Victoria laughed softly.

“You really believed your father built everything perfectly?””

I said nothing.

Because deep down, I remembered.

The arguments.

The late-night phone calls.

The locked office.

The warnings from employees who suddenly disappeared.

Elena had always been curious.

She asked questions.

She noticed things.

And my father saw her as a threat.

“She found documents,” Victoria continued.

“What documents?””

“The ones that could destroy your family name.””

The room became silent.

“So my father forced her away?””

Victoria nodded.

“And when I found out you loved her, he made me an offer.””

I stared at her.

“You agreed.””

She looked ashamed.

“Yes.””

The answer was simple.

Cruel.

“Yes.””

Lily hugged Emma tighter.

I looked at the child who had walked into my wedding because she had nowhere else to go.

A child who had been carrying a burden created by powerful adults.

“How did Elena survive?””

Ethan looked down.

“She didn’t have much.””

I looked at him.

“You knew where she was.””

“Yes.””

“And you still said nothing.””

His eyes filled with regret.

“I thought I was protecting your company.””

“No.””

I shook my head.

“You were protecting a lie.””

A phone suddenly rang.

Everyone froze.

It was mine.

The screen showed an unknown number.

I answered.

“Hello?””

A woman’s voice came through.

Weak.

Panicked.

“Adrian?””

I recognized it immediately.

Elena.

But she wasn’t calling from the hospital.

“Where are you?””

There was a pause.

Then I heard fear in her voice.

“They found me.””

My blood ran cold.

“Who?””

The line crackled.

Before she answered, another voice appeared in the background.

A man.

Older.

Familiar.

A voice I had not heard in years.

My father’s former lawyer.

“Mr. Cole…”

I froze.

The man continued.

“You need to stop searching for the truth.””

My grip tightened around the phone.

“He’s dead.””

A pause.

Then the lawyer whispered:

“Not everything your father left behind is dead.””

The call ended.

I stared at the screen.

Then at the people around me.

Because suddenly I understood something.

The wedding interruption was not the beginning of the secret.

It was the moment the secret finally started fighting back.
