Chapter 3: The Secret Behind the Visit
The entire showroom waited.
For once, Carolina wasn’t the person controlling the room.
Everyone was looking at me.
My father turned slowly.
“Valeria?””
I hated that moment.
Not because I had done something wrong.
But because I knew this conversation was coming eventually.
I just never expected it to happen like this.
“I was going to tell you tonight,” I said.
My father studied my face.
“Tell me what?””
Carolina smiled from across the room.
She thought she had found a way to escape responsibility.
She thought exposing my secret would somehow protect her.
She was wrong.
I took a breath.
“I didn’t come here to buy a car.””
The employees exchanged confused looks.
My father remained silent.
“Then why did you come?””
I looked around the dealership.
At the cars.
The walls.
The company logo.
Everything my father had built.
“Because I wanted to see this place without anyone knowing who I was.””
My father’s expression softened slightly.
“Why?””
“Because I wanted to know how people were treated when they thought I had nothing.””
Nobody spoke.
Carolina’s smile disappeared.
My father understood immediately.
“You were checking the dealership?””
“Not officially.””
“Valeria.””
“I know.””
I looked down.
“But after everything you built, I wanted to see if the people representing you understood your values.””
My father looked at Carolina.
And this time, even she understood.
This was not about a customer.
This was about character.
“You lied to me,” Carolina whispered.
I looked back at her.
“No.””
“You hid who you were.””
“Yes.””
“Same thing.””
“No.””
My voice stayed calm.
“It isn’t.””
The dealership became quiet again.
“I never asked you to treat me differently because of my last name.””
Carolina looked away.
“I asked you to treat me like a person.””
Those words hit harder than anger ever could.
My father walked toward the front desk.
“Bring me every customer complaint from the last six months.””
Carolina immediately reacted.
“Why?””
“Because I want to know if today was an exception.””
Her face changed.
For the first time, she looked afraid.
“Mr. Moretti…”
But my father raised his hand.
“No excuses.””
The employees began gathering files.
I watched Carolina carefully.
She wasn’t just embarrassed.
She was worried.
That told me something.
There was more.
A few minutes later, Daniel returned with a tablet.
“Mr. Moretti, there are several complaints.””
My father looked at the screen.
“What kind?””
Daniel hesitated.
“Customers saying they were ignored unless they looked wealthy.””
Carolina stepped forward.
“Those are exaggerated.””
“Are they?”” my father asked.
“Yes.””
“Then explain this.””
He turned the tablet around.
A review appeared.
A customer had written that Carolina refused to allow them to test drive a vehicle because they “didn’t look like the type who could afford it.””
My father’s eyes narrowed.
“How many times?””
Carolina didn’t answer.
“Carolina.””
She looked down.
“I don’t remember.””
That answer said everything.
I thought the moment would end there.
I thought she would finally understand.
But then her phone rang.
She looked at the screen.
Her expression changed instantly.
Not fear.
Panic.
She answered quietly.
“Hello?””
She walked a few steps away.
Nobody could hear the first few words.
Then her face became pale.
“No, that’s impossible.””
My father noticed.
“What is it?””
Carolina ended the call.
For a moment, she looked at all of us.
Then she looked at me.
And something about her expression changed.
The anger was gone.
Replaced by desperation.
“Mr. Moretti…”
“Yes?””
“There’s a problem.””
“What problem?””
She swallowed.
“The person who approved my position here…”
She looked at the company logo on the wall.
“Someone changed the ownership records.””
My father frowned.
“What are you talking about?””
Carolina’s hands trembled.
“The dealership wasn’t supposed to be under your direct review.””
A strange silence filled the room.
My father stepped closer.
“Who told you that?””
She looked at me.
“I think someone wanted you away from this location.””
My stomach tightened.
“Why?””
Carolina didn’t answer immediately.
Then she said something that made my father’s face change.
“Because someone inside your company has been hiding financial problems.””
The room went completely still.
My father’s voice lowered.
“Who?””
Carolina looked terrified.
“I don’t know.””
“Then how do you know?””
She looked at the entrance.
At the street outside.
Then back at us.
“Because the person who called me just now said they were coming here.””
My father’s eyes narrowed.
“When?””
Carolina whispered:
“They said they would arrive before you discovered the truth.””
A black car suddenly slowed down outside the dealership.
Everyone turned toward the window.
And the person who stepped out was someone my father recognized immediately.
Someone he never expected to see again.
Someone who knew exactly how to hurt the Moretti family.
My father’s face went pale.
“Impossible…”
I looked at him.
“Dad?””
He didn’t answer.
May you like
Because the person walking through the glass doors was already inside.
And they were smiling.
