Chapter 11: The Father Who Knew Too Much

Nobody spoke after I showed them the photo.

Richard.

Standing beside Noah.

The same Richard who warned me about Ellis.

The same Richard who gave me documents.

The same Richard who claimed he wanted the truth.

My hands felt numb.

“No.””

Claire looked at the image.

“Where was this taken?””

I checked the timestamp.

“Ten minutes ago.””

Victor’s expression changed.

“That’s impossible.””

I looked at him.

“Why?””

“Because Richard left years ago.””

My eyes narrowed.

“What?””

Victor looked uncomfortable.

“After your father died, Richard disappeared from everything connected to the company.””

Claire laughed bitterly.

“Not disappeared.””

She looked at me.

“He hid.””

I felt overwhelmed.

Every answer created three more questions.

“Why is my son with him?””

Nobody answered.

Then Ellis spoke.

“Because Noah found out the truth before we did.””

I looked at him.

“You knew he was investigating.””

“Yes.””

“And you let him?””

His expression broke.

“No.””

The answer surprised me.

“I tried to stop him.””

“Why?””

“Because I knew what he would find.””

I stared.

“Then why didn’t you tell me?””

Ellis looked at the floor.

“Because I was ashamed.””

That was the first honest thing he had said all day.

It didn’t fix anything.

But it was real.

Claire crossed her arms.

“Shame doesn’t erase what you did.””

“No,” Ellis said quietly.

“I know.””

For a moment, I saw the man I married.

The man who held Noah as a baby.

The man who cried when we lost our first pregnancy.

Then I remembered the courtroom.

The check.

The lies.

Love and betrayal existed in the same person.

That was the hardest part.

My phone rang.

Noah.

I answered immediately.

“Mom?””

His voice was low.

“Are you alone?””

I looked around.

“No.””

A pause.

“Who’s there?””

I didn’t know how to answer.

“Everyone.””

“That’s bad.””

My heart tightened.

“What happened?””

“Mom, listen carefully.””

I moved away from the others.

“I’m listening.””

“Grandpa Richard told me something.””

“What?””

“He said the money was never supposed to be mine.””

I frowned.

“Then whose was it?””

A long pause.

“Yours.””

I closed my eyes.

“I know.””

“No, Mom. You don’t.””

His voice shook.

“It’s not just the money.””

“What else?””

“The account.””

“What about it?””

“It has a safety lock.””

I looked confused.

“What does that mean?””

“It means if someone tries to take control of it…”

He stopped.

“Noah?””

“Mom, it sends everything to the authorities.””

My heart started racing.

“What everything?””

“The evidence.””

The warehouse went silent around me.

“What evidence?””

“Dad’s crimes.””

I froze.

Ellis was standing nearby.

He noticed my expression.

“What did he say?””

I ignored him.

“Noah, why would my account have evidence?””

“Because Grandpa set it up.””

“Why?””

“So if anything happened to him…”

My breath caught.

“He knew.””

“Yes.””

“Knew what?””

Noah’s voice became quieter.

“He knew someone would try to steal everything from you.””

A cold feeling moved through me.

“Who?””

My son didn’t answer.

He didn’t need to.

Because the truth had been sitting in front of me the entire time.

Victor.

Richard.

Ellis.

Everyone connected to the money.

Everyone had a reason.

Then Noah whispered:

“Mom, there’s something else.””

“What?””

“I found the original video.””

My heart stopped.

“What video?””

“The night you lost your memory.””

The room disappeared.

“What?””

“It shows what happened.””

My hands shook.

“Where is it?””

“I have it.””

“Send it to me.””

“I can’t.””

“Why?””

“Because Dad already knows I found it.””

My blood turned cold.

“How?””

A pause.

Then Noah said:

“Because someone inside this room told him.””

I slowly looked around.

Everyone was watching me.

Claire.

Victor.

Ellis.

Nobody moved.

Nobody spoke.

Then Noah added:

“Mom…”

“Yes?””

“Be careful.””

“Why?””

His voice cracked.

“Because the person who betrayed you is standing right beside you.””

The call ended.

I lowered the phone.

The warehouse was silent.

Then someone whispered:

“Sabrina…”

I turned.

And saw Victor holding his phone.

A new message had appeared on his screen.

His face went pale.

Because the message was from Richard.

It said:

“She knows too much. Finish it tonight.””
