Chapter 12: The Man Behind The Door
The emergency lights came on.
Red.
Dim.
Cold.
The entire house changed in seconds.
The guards moved through the halls.
Dante stood beside me.
Protecting Leo.
Protecting me.
But I couldn’t stop thinking about the voice.
The voice from my childhood.
The voice my mother feared.
“Who is inside?””
Dante didn’t answer.
That meant he knew.
And I hated that.
“Dante.””
His eyes met mine.
“It’s someone I thought was gone.””
My stomach tightened.
“Everyone you thought was gone keeps coming back.””
He didn’t disagree.
Then a guard rushed downstairs.
“Boss!””
Dante turned.
“What?””
“We found the breach point.””
“Who?””
The guard hesitated.
“The person entered through the old family wing.””
Dante’s expression changed.
“No one goes there.””
The guard nodded.
“That’s why we checked.””
I looked between them.
“What’s the old family wing?””
Nobody answered.
Rafael did.
“Where your grandmother lived.””
I felt a chill.
The place connected to my bloodline.
The place holding the secrets everyone wanted hidden.
Dante looked at me.
“You stay here.””
“No.””
The answer surprised him.
“No?””
I shook my head.
“I’m tired of everyone deciding what I can handle.””
For a moment, nobody spoke.
Then Dante slowly nodded.
“You’re more like your mother than you realize.””
We moved through the hallway.
The house was silent.
Too silent.
Every step felt heavier.
Finally, we reached an old wooden door.
Dante stopped.
“This room hasn’t been opened in years.””
“Why?””
His hand touched the handle.
“Because the last person who entered disappeared.””
The door opened.
Inside was a room frozen in time.
Old furniture.
Dusty books.
Family photographs.
Then I saw it.
A portrait.
A woman standing beside two children.
One was Dante.
The other…
Was my mother.
I stepped closer.
“No.””
Dante looked at the portrait.
“She was my sister.””
My heart stopped.
“What?””
“My half-sister.””
I stared at him.
“My mother and your father shared the same bloodline.””
Dante nodded.
“And that’s why your mother knew everything.””
The room spun.
My entire life had been built on hidden connections.
Then I saw another photograph.
A younger Dante.
My mother.
Rafael.
And someone else.
The man from my memory.
The dragon tattoo.
Dante looked at the picture.
His face changed.
“That’s him.””
“Who?””
He whispered:
“Luciano Rosselli.””
The name meant nothing.
But the fear in Dante’s voice did.
“Who is he?””
Dante stared at the photo.
“My uncle.””
I looked at him.
“Your uncle?””
Rafael nodded.
“He was the beginning of everything.””
A sound came from behind us.
A slow clap.
Everyone turned.
A man stood in the doorway.
Older.
Gray hair.
A calm smile.
The dragon tattoo visible on his hand.
The same one from my childhood.
“I see you finally found the room.””
Dante stepped forward.
“Luciano.””
The man smiled.
“My nephew.””
I felt my heart race.
This was the man who had haunted my memories.
The man my mother feared.
Luciano looked at me.
And smiled.
“So this is Alina.””
Nobody moved.
Then he said the words that shattered everything.
“I’ve waited twenty-seven years to meet my daughter.””
The room went silent.
I stared at him.
“What?””
Luciano smiled.
And Dante’s face turned completely pale.
Because he knew.
May you like
He knew something I didn’t.
And the truth was finally standing in front of us.
