Sophie was only 15 months old—
yet she already knew she had to HIDE from Vanessa.
The toddler trembled beneath the coffee table while her eight-year-old brother stood between her and danger.
WHACK!
Vanessa struck Ethan.
“If you just tell me where your sister is, you won't get beaten anymore.”
But Ethan refused to betray Sophie.
“Please, spare my sister.”
Vanessa pinned him against the wall and lifted the strap again.
“You brought this on yourself.”
Then she swung.
But suddenly—
a man’s hand SNATCHED the strap out of the air.
Vanessa FROZE.
Daniel had returned unexpectedly from his business trip.
And he had seen enough.
“Go ahead. Try it again.”
Vanessa turned toward her husband.
All the color disappeared from her face.
