Chapter 1

Ten Minutes Before My Wedding, I Found My Fiancée Pulling My Little Girl’s Hair and Slapping Her—Then I Heard What She Whispered in My Daughter’s Ear.

I had gone looking for my six-year-old daughter, Sophie, because she was supposed to walk down the aisle with me.

Instead, I heard her crying behind the bridal suite.

“Please stop.”

I pushed the door open and froze.

My fiancée, Vanessa, had one fist twisted in Sophie’s hair.

Before I could move, she slapped my daughter across the cheek.

Sophie whimpered and covered her face.

Vanessa leaned down until her lips were beside Sophie’s ear.

“From today on, you call me Mom and do exactly what I say.”

Sophie shook her head.

“I want my daddy.”

Vanessa tightened her grip.

“If you embarrass me again, you’ll get much worse than that.”

“Get your hands off my daughter.”

Vanessa spun around.

Her face went completely white.

“Daniel?”

Sophie ran toward me sobbing.

I dropped to my knees and wrapped both arms around her.

“Daddy, please don’t marry her.”

Vanessa rushed forward.

“Daniel, this isn’t what it looks like.”

I stared at the red mark across Sophie’s cheek.

“I watched you hit her.”

“She was having a tantrum.”

“She’s six.”

Vanessa lowered her voice.

“You’re going to destroy our wedding over one little misunderstanding?”

Something inside me snapped.

I stood, grabbed the long train of her wedding dress, and ripped the expensive lace straight down the middle.

Vanessa screamed.

“What are you doing?!”

“I’m making sure you don’t walk down that aisle.”

The wedding coordinator and several guests rushed into the room.

Vanessa immediately started crying.

“He attacked me! Someone call the police!”

Then Sophie tugged on my jacket.

“Daddy, she did something else while you were on your business trip.”

The room went silent.

Sophie pointed toward Vanessa’s bridal bag and whispered, “The papers she made me sign are still inside.”

May you like

Vanessa stopped crying.

And for the first time that day, she looked terrified.
