Chapter 1

My husband brought his mistress to our anniversary party and introduced her as his “future wife.” I pushed her face into the cake, slapped him, and whispered, “You’ll walk away with nothing.”

Ryan had insisted on hosting the party at a luxury hotel in Chicago.

Nearly a hundred relatives, friends, and business partners watched us enter the ballroom.

I thought he planned to apologize for months of cold silence.

Instead, he walked onto the stage holding another woman’s hand.

Her name was Jessica, his assistant.

She was wearing the diamond necklace I had received from my mother.

Ryan tapped his glass and smiled at me.

“Emily and I are ending our marriage.”

The room fell silent.

Jessica leaned against him as cameras turned toward us.

Ryan continued, “Tonight, everyone can finally meet the woman I truly love.”

His mother laughed and raised her champagne glass.

“Jessica will make a much better wife.”

I stood beside our anniversary cake while my hands trembled.

Jessica approached me with a cruel smile.

“Don’t embarrass yourself, Emily.”

Then she held out divorce papers in front of our guests.

“Sign these, and Ryan might let you keep your car.”

People began whispering, but Ryan looked pleased.

“You haven’t earned anything else,” he said.

Jessica reached for the knife to cut my anniversary cake.

I grabbed the back of her head and pushed her face straight into it.

She screamed as frosting covered her hair and dress.

Ryan seized my wrist.

“Have you lost your mind?”

I slapped him so hard that his microphone hit the floor.

“You’ll walk away with nothing,” I warned.

He laughed and told security to remove me.

But none of the guards moved.

The hotel manager quietly locked the ballroom doors.

Then my attorney entered carrying a sealed envelope.

Ryan’s smile vanished when he saw the federal agents behind her.

I took the microphone and looked directly at his business partners.

“Before Ryan announces his new life, you should hear who actually owns his company.”

May you like

My attorney opened the envelope and read the first name aloud.

It wasn’t mine—and the elderly woman who stood up at the back of the ballroom made Ryan turn completely white.
